Stalybridge
Archery Club

|
Stalybridge Archery club was founded in 1958 as a private club, but it was not until 1960 that the club became an affiliated member of Cheshire Archery Association. In the intervening years since then, the clubs standing within the county has steadily increased along with its membership, this has lead to many fine archers being produced from within the clubs ranks. Amongst these members, both past and present, the club has County, Regional and National Champions, County, Regional and National record holders, and has even had members who have competed at the Olympic games. The clubs principle discipline is target archery, but members are encouraged to try their hand at all the other disciplines of the sport, these being primarily Field and Clout, which several members have excelled at. Many club members actively take part in tournaments spanning the length and breadth of the country, and these tournaments range from world record status events to the more relaxed inter club shoots. The club also has members who are actively involved in the sport both as archers, but also find the time to take up rolls as officials, several being officers on the county committee. The club also currently has within its membership a National judge, who is also a member of the national judging committee, and has judged at the Archery World Cup, when it was held in Dover in 2007. The club caters for all levels of archers, including those who feel they are not yet ready for open tournaments, as well as whose who just don't want to shoot away from the club. The club runs several of its own competitions, which are held through out the year, and are a mixture of serious and fun shoots, however all these tournaments are geared to improving the shooting skills of all the archers who take part, but most especially those of the less experienced. There is also a social side to the club with several events being
organized through out the year. These range from a simple evening get
together, to holidays encompassing an Archery tournament. |
